LANGUAGE DISORDER
Language is the expression of human communication. When language is impaired it can impact a person's life including:
  • ​​employment and employment opportunities
  • social development
  • personal relationships
  • self-sufficiency ​​
How is a language disorder diagnosed?
Confirmation of a disorder, severity and treatment options are assessed by a Speech Language Pathologist in addition to imaging procedures such as a CT (computed tomography) and/or MRI (magnetic resonance imaging).
How is aphasia treated?
The goal of aphasia treatment is to improve the patients ability to communicate through methods that may include:
  • speech-language therapy
  • computer /iPad/tablet based language learning software and/or apps
  • AAC (augmentative and alternative communication devices). Low and high tech devices such as a simple picture board or computers.
